undercutting is a survival tactic

Our tactics for survival are our most practiced. Which means that our propensity to undercut other people with comments, actions, even looks, come more easily than demonstrating gestures of support.

Undercutting behaviors are an attempt to be “one up”. Yet even if our undercut is successful, the sense of being on top is always fleeting.

Support, on the other hand, builds gradually but it also snowballs. Meaning that if you decide to commit to being someone who tries, whenever possible, to support people rather than undercut them, you’ll find the support (and respect) for you grows too. And the influence is much greater than taking cheap shots.
