projections: you can’t see me when you only see yourself

We project positive and negative things on people all the time. We might project that someone always has their act together or that someone is always dramatic and a victim. We might project that someone doesn’t take care of themselves or they take too much on.

Our projections, positive and negative, are simply parts of ourselves that we’ve disowned or resisted acknowledging.  They may be true about the other person too, but the first step is being able to see our own behavior. Only then do we stand a chance to really see other people’s reality, not just what we assume it to be.
