- Zero in on the actual problem.
- Look for gaps in information.
- Pay particularly close attention to what is not being said or done.
- Notice where your own emotions and personal biases are skewing your ability to see the situation clearly. Get them on the table.
- Play out the unintended consequences, especially if you think you already know them.
- Pause. Is the solution addressing the real issue?
