in between black and white thinking

When a lot is being asked of us (will you do this? Can you take on one more thing? Can you help me?), it is easy to forget that there’s an infinite number of responses between saying yes and saying no. And if we are willing to take the time to identify what works for us in the space between, we can almost always come to a solution that works for the person asking and, more importantly, doesn’t feel like we are compromising who we are or bending over backwards to please everyone else.
