vying for power

We spend most of our time vying for power — figuring out whether we are one up on others or one down. When we aren’t trying to figure out where we positionally sit, we are actively in pursuit of either putting ourselves in a position above or below others.

What would it look like to be with people — whether they are people we love, work with, or just meet? What would it look like to be with them without trying to prove ourselves and without undercutting ourselves?

“Giving” others power as well as trying to “maintain” power are both illusions and the best indicator that we aren’t present to ourselves. The power worth vying for is the power that emerges when we decide we are power.
