change is hard

When Gmail’s design changed, I was disoriented for a few days. Initially, I claimed to hate the new look, but within a week I could barely remember the earlier version. The same thing happened when Instagram changed its interface and when my favorite grocery store upgraded its logo.

Getting used to change is hard. Especially change that isn’t our decision (things that are out of our control are more threatening).

Change will probably never be easy. But it reminds us that we are part of a larger “system” and it is a system’s natural inclination to maintain itself. Which means that our reluctance to change is just us doing what a system is inclined to do.

This leaves us with a choice: are we going to do what we’ve always done or are we willing to get on board with the disruption?
