fear is like a bouncer

Everyone who starts something brand new feels some degree of fear. So to not do something out of fear is relatable, but isn’t particularly interesting. What would be more engaging is to understand what’s underneath the fear. In other words, if you are scared of failing, what’s your belief about people who fail? Or if you are afraid of looking silly or weird, what’s your belief about people who are silly or weird?

Fear is sort of like a bouncer employed by our belief system. It has made a job out of keeping us from taking risks that would challenge our current beliefs. Our beliefs are what actually stop us.

If we’re dabbling in risks, we can push through fear, but if we’re evaluating bigger risks then we need to rework our beliefs about taking them. It will serve every situation we are considering—new projects, new relationships, new ventures, etc.
