If we start with the assumption that every action stems from an unmet desire or an unfulfilled need, our actions become much clearer.
- A sarcastic, undercutting comment covers up a desire to be known and heard.
- Pleasing people is an attempt to be loved.
- Defending past actions is an indirect way of trying to be safe. Most likely deflecting attention hides the same desire.
Seeing the positive intention behind an action isn’t easy, but it is often the best way to get to a solution.
